Spotlight on Staff

Each trimester we highlight an LCRC Staff Member. This trimester, we get to know  DelRae Chivers.

What is your title at LCRC?
Outreach & Development Coordinator.

What does your job at LCRC entail?

In a nutshell, I work to bring resources into the organization in the form of gifts, donations, and grants which allow us to help those in need; while at the same time taking opportunities in the form of facility tours and speaking engagements to get the message out to our ever-so-generous community about the work we do at LCRC.

What brought you to LCRC?

I started “stalking” LCRC when I submitted my résumé to Anna almost a year ago and a couple times since in desire to getting into this great organization. But timing is everything. Late August 2018, this position opened right at the time I was ready to plant myself into a single job, and to spend my last professional decade in service to others. Every star perfectly aligned!

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

Being a member of this fabulous “work family”! I love the staff at LCRC! They figuratively link arms to collaborate on the best way to serve those who come through our doors.

What is the most challenging part of your job?

Learning to walk [in this job] before I run. There are so many, many ways to innovate within this position, and I have an encouraging E.D. in Anna Sellin. I have to work at patience.

What is your background?

My professions include hair salon owner/operator, HR professional, and real estate business manager.  More recently, earning my Masters in Business Administration (MBA) and a Masters in Sociology afforded me an opportunity to learn A LOT and teach at North Dakota State University. While this all seems quite diverse, I can see that each and every facet of my professional background will culminate into applying insight and empathy to being a staff member of LCRC.

Additionally, I have been part of community service in the Detroit Lakes area for well over thirty years, serving on many, many committees and projects. I am beyond excited to get back into the astoundingly philanthropic side of this great community!

Who is/are the most influential person(s) in your life?

My friends.  They all have a common thread of being supportive, funny, empathetic, hard-working, intelligent, but above all…kind. They all inspire me to be better.

What is your favorite food?

A game I like to play with friends and family is to answer the question:  If you could only have two foods and one beverage for a month, what would they be? My answer is tacos, pumpkin pie, and milk. (It’s a fun game!)

What is your favorite movie?

At the moment, three: Secretariat—there’s something grand about a strong woman, standing for her beliefs; and the horse that defied all records.  Taking Chance—an officer’s increased reverence for a fallen soldier; should be required viewing.  Cinderella—the latest version holds the mantra, “have courage and be kind.” Words to live by.
